Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus: Overview
Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G 128GB along with two other Galaxy S20 and S20 Ultra. It is cheaper than the S20 Ultra and has a bigger screen and a bigger battery than the vanilla S20.
Body Design:
unlike the galaxies of past S20 series, the S20 plus has a very-subtle curve on the screen. It is enough to be elegant but not obnoxious to use. There are tiny bezels all around with a single centered hole punch near the top. The phone has the Gorilla Glass on the front and the back standing on an aluminum frame. It has an IP 68 rating, so it should be able to survive a little bit of abuse.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G 128GB is lighter than expected and weighs about 188 grams. It has a dimension of 161.9 x 73.7 x 7.8 mm, which is a large phone but slim at the same time. Despite having a large screen, it feels comfortable in the hand.
Camera:
The camera setup is quite large, but it doesn’t compare to what you would find on the back of the S20 Ultra.
Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G 128GB has a quad-camera setup the same as the S20 but with an additional time-of-flight camera. Samsung has updated the sensors from the previous generation especially for its ultrawide and main cameras.
The photos in the daylight are great with all three cameras. The 64 MP main camera has the most details with nicely vivid colors and very-reliable Auto HDR. The ultrawide has slightly less detail though the overall processing matches the main snappers.
At night, the dynamic range on the main camera is excellent even without night mode, which increases the detail levels and shadows.
The night mode performs better. The portraits with the camera are stunning.
You can take up to 8k videos at 24 fps, which aren’t that great. The 4K videos are more stable and have a better practical use.
The 10 MP front camera produced equally high-quality images with great-detail and color depth.
Platform:
Samsung S20 uses Exynos 990 (7 nm+) chipset with a Mali-G77 MP11 GPU in the Global Version and Qualcomm SM8250 chipset with Adreno 650 GPU for the USA version. Both the combinations work neck to neck in terms of performance. They are the latest combination in the smartphone world.
Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G 128GB operates over an Android 10.0 with a One UI 2 on top. It has two variations on the CPU also. The US version uses an Octa-core (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 585 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 585 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 585) and Octa-core (2×2.73 GHz Mongoose M5 & 2×2.60 GHz Cortex-A76 & 4×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55) in the Global version.
You will be able to render any application data and play heavy-duty games with ease and efficiency on the S20 Plus.
The phone offers variations in the Storage and RAM capacities like 128GB 12GB RAM, 256GB 12GB RAM, 512GB 12GB RAM. We have a 128GB with 12GB RAM.
Display:
The SmartPhone has a 6.7 inches Dynamic AMOLED 2X capacitive touchscreen that supports 16 M color depth. AMOLED is one of the best displays in the SmartPhone world. It has a 90.5% screen-to-body ratio, which might be the largest on any SmartPhone to date.
Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus has a 1440 x 3200 pixels resolution with an aspect ratio of 20:9. It boasts 525 PPI density, which enables the device to produce Ultra HD images on every frame with precise details and vibrant color shades.
The always-on display supports an HDR10+ feature that enhances the viewing experience for users. You can choose between a 120 Hz refresh rate with FHD resolution and a 60 Hz refresh rate with a QHD resolution.
The higher refresh rate makes the phone feel faster even though there is a cost of battery life.
The phone has a lower brightness than the S20 Ultra, but it still beats most in the competition. The manual adjustment produces 379 nits of brightness, and the auto mode gives up to 797 nits of brightness.
Battery:
S20 Plus uses a Li-Po 4500 mAh battery. It has a similar battery life to its siblings. When the 120 Hz refresh rate is turned on, it got 87 hours of endurance-rating. The 60 Hz refresh rate has 97 hours of endurance. These values seem a bit low considering the size of the battery. It is because Samsung hasn’t implemented the dynamic refresh rate.
There is a 25W adapter that can charge the S20 Plus from 0 to 62 percent in half an hour and 100% in 57 minutes. The S20 Plus supports up to 15W wireless charging and it also supports reverse wireless charging where Samsung is calling wireless power share.
Sound:
Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G 128GB is a great media consumption device not only for the videos and images but the audio too. The phone has a stereo speaker setup that uses a downward-facing speaker on the bottom of the device.
The device doesn’t provide any jack port for headphones. You need to connect using Bluetooth. The speakers are very loud but cannot beat the S20 Ultra. It has a frequency response close to the S20 Ultra’s.
